Metro Rod Birmingham are experts in drain unblocking, so when you come face to face with a blocked drains you don’t need to worry as we are on call 24/7 to handle it for you.
We offer a couple of services for drain unblocking which we will decide on after fully assessing the problem and working out what is causing your blocked drains. Our 2 most used methods for drain unblocking are high-pressure water jetting and electro-mechanical cleaning.
- High-pressure water jetting is the preferred method for drain unblocking as it provides along-term solution to the problem. It works by spraying water directly at the blockage at such a pressure that the force of the water causes the blockage to break into smaller pieces which can then be flushed through and out of the drain.
- Electro-mechanical cleaning is the process of using a motorised tool to rotate a cable or spring which is stored inside the tool which the engineer feeds into the drain. The tool then rotates which effectively breaks up the large mass so that it can be pushed through the pipe or drain.
Research has shown that about 80% of blockages are completely avoidable as many are caused by flushing the wrong things down the toilet or washing foods and grease down the sink. So to help prevent you from needing a drain unblocking it’s good to remember the 3 Ps (poo, pee and toilet paper) and throw anything else in the bin.
If you have a bad blockage and want to stop the risk of flooding and the bad smells that come with it then you can try the ‘home remedy’ for drain unblocking. All you need is baking soda and vinegar. Start by pouring boiling water down the drain followed by one cup of baking soda, then one cup of water and one cup of vinegar. Cover the drain for about 10 minutes while the reaction takes place, it’s normal to hear some fizzing at this point. The reaction from mixing the baking soda and vinegar together helps loosen whatever is blocking the drain. You can then pour more boiling water down the drain to help flush it out. If you try this and it doesn’t work or you find yourself with the same blocked drain a few days later it’s best to call Metro Rod Birmingham who can provide a more effective long-lasting solution.
