As Storm Ciara batters Bristol, Bath and Trowbridge, Metro Rod is on standby for any drainage needs
As always with the weather there have been whispers of a storm coming over the last few weeks and here at Metro Rod Bristol and Bath we have been getting prepared for the worst. The worst has luckily come and gone and we are now facing the aftermath of Storm Ciara in Bristol and Bah.
Passengers at Bristol Airport were left stranded on the tarmac as a result of "extremely challenging" conditions caused by Storm Ciara. Bristol Airport was severely affected as a number of flights were cancelled or delayed, leading to an "unprecedented" amount of aircraft leaving the airport at the same time. The chaos led to problems making enough coaches available to carry passengers into the terminal, leaving them to wait on the tarmac, much to their frustration. So what does that mean for Metro Rod Bristol and the drainage systems in Bristol and Bath?
First of all after the yellow weather warning was issues last week there was a risk of flying debris, flying trees, flying roofs and of course this damage to buildings has caused damaged drains in need of repair. Metro Rod Bristol have been working hard to repair drains that have been affected by the storm for example through damage caused by external factors such as debris. We have also had to be resilient in our water control across the Bristol areas as due to the storm several areas have flooded. Flooding, as we know, can be extremely dangerous and if untreated can cause severe problems.
Our tankers can carry up to 3000 gallons of water and have the capacity for high volume jetting, vacuumation or a combination of both. These tankers are definitely a rival for Storm Ciara as they can blast away rubbish, tree roots and debris in drains, sewers and large pipes.
Metro Rod offer ‘pre-planned maintenance’ which can help reduce the risk of flooding. This can be set up annually and will ensure your drainage system is working to the best of its ability. As well as preparing for national weather conditions such as Storm Ciara, the pre-planned maintenance can help remove a build up of silt and debris which can as a result cause blockages and flooding. We can use ‘higher pressure water jetters’ to clean these drains and ensure that we use this method of prevention to stay safe.
