Drain care and repair in London, or anywhere else for that matter, is a job that takes a particularly strong and capable type of person. To deal with problems such as a blocked drain or blocked toilet in all weathers and at any time of day or night is not a task for the faint-hearted. At the same time there are very considerable technical skills and expertise needed to correctly diagnose the root cause of drainage issues, operate drain-clearing and CCTV survey equipment and conduct "no-dig" structural repair to London's drains.
We regularly remind ourselves of what heroes our team of skilled and hard-working drainage engineers are. One such "hero" individual stands out, within an overall great team, as a terrific example of loyalty, reliability, skill and experience. Metro Rod Central London's Steve Georgiou has just celebrated THIRTY YEARS with us and we salute you Steve for your great work over this long period of time.
Above we see Steve (no it's not a young Robert De Niro) collecting an Award at Metro Rod's 1989 National Conference as "Most Promising Engineer of the Year". Whoever actually made that decision has seen their decision absolutely vindicated and, as the picture on the right hand side featuring the same trophy shows, Steve is still with us today doing a fantastic job...still unblocking drains in Acton, still CCTV surveying drains in Westminster, still carrying out pre-planned maintenance cleans in the City of London and still descaling internal pipework in Knightsbridge. In fact there probably aren't many streets in London, from Stratford to Dulwich and from Camden to Roehampton, which Steve has not driven his drainage van down at some point in the past 1600 weeks.
Steve often operates as a two-man crew with fellow Metro Rod drainage engineer Kevin Henstock and their particular speciality is CCTV drain survey. Many London Facilities Managers and Property Managers have appreciated their skills in this area which provide clear inspection of the interior of drainage systems in order to assist with decision making and budgetary control.
Steve tells us that the best thing about working for Metro Rod Central London is "the family-like atmosphere in the team". Here are some of Steve's other favourite things :
Favourite Food : Chicken shish kebab
Favourite Pastimes : Metal detecting. Computing.
Favourite Film : Men in Black (perhaps fitting given Metro Rod uniform !)
Steve Georgiou ...we salute you as a true drain care hero. Here's to many more customers being satisfied by Steve's skill and expertise and, indeed, that of all our engineer team
