METRO ROD COVENTRY’S ADVICE FOR DEALING WITH BAD WEATHER

We all know that the weather here in the UK can get quite terrible, especially as we enter the winter months, so Metro Rod Coventry want to give you some advice on how to prepare your drains for this.

MEtro Rod Swansea Blocked Drain Tanker Flood Suck 2

We’re used to heavy rain and frequent storms which bring down a lot of debris, and this can have a serious impact on your drains which may lead to flooding if you are not prepared. Being prepared can be the difference between a safe, dry home and one that becomes water damaged. After heavy rain, a storm or a lot of snow our drains will be under more stress to drain away the extra water and when these drains aren’t properly looked after and maintained, that is when we start to see flooding.

To help you prepare for potential flooding, here is some of Metro Rod’s best advice.

Assess the Flood Risk

No matter where you live it’s a good idea to know the flood risk as this could be the difference between a prepared and protected property and a damaged one. Insurance is a big part of being prepared, by making sure you have good home and contents insurance you will be backed up in case anything goes wrong. Another thing you can do to help protect your home or business is have sandbags ready to use in case the weather turns or flooding becomes an issue.

Keeping Drains Clear

Over winter and autumn you will notice a lot of leaves and debris falling from trees and making its way into the drains. This will start to clog up the drains and prevent water from properly draining away. If your drains are easy to access you can reach in and pull out any debris or clumps of leaves that might have fallen in to clear the blockages. If this is not possible you might need help from Metro Rod Coventry who have the equipped needed to fully clear the drain. Other than this, you can regularly rake up the fallen leaves and debris into piles away from the drains and dispose of it to ensure it does not make its way into the drains.

In winter especially, snow and ice may form on the top of your drains causing them to become blocked. As the ice and snow melts around the drain it will struggle to drain away and as there might be a lot of it you may experience localised flooding. You should try and remove the ice and snow from the top of your drains.

Gutter VACs

Gutter VACs is a service we provide at Metro Rod and it saves you the hassle of getting up on a ladder to clear your gutters. We rely on our gutters being clear so that water can drain away, if this is not possible the water will build up and you risk the gutters breaking under the water weight. If the gutters do break with all the water inside then you are at risk of flooding and potentially water entering your home. Our Gutter VAC equipment means the engineer doesn’t need to use a ladder, instead they stay on the ground to remove all the leaves and debris blocking your gutters. With a small camera attached to the end of equipment the engineer can make sure they have removed all of it.
