All sorts of things can go wrong with our drainage systems both at home and at business properties, so let us explain what some of the most common problems are so you can try and avoid them.
When you have a problem with your drains it is often a worrying time and you’ll need to call out a professional to fix it ASAP. If you know what the problem is it can help speed the process up a bit, so Metro Rod Aberdeen have put together this list of the most common problems to help you spot what is wrong.
Blocked drains
When water is just sitting there, not going down the plug or flowing the way it should then chances are you have a blocked drain. You can try to move the blockage yourself with a plunger, by creating a tight seal around the drain, and pushing and pulling you may be able to dislodge whatever is in your pipes. However if you are concerned by causing damage to your drainage system by trying yourself then get in contact with Metro Rod Aberdeen using the information at the bottom of the page and we will be happy to help you.
Leaking pipes
When a pipe is leaking you’ll want it fixed as soon as possible to prevent flooding and water damage to your property. If the leak is in a reachable area you can place a bucket or tub to collect the water to help prevent damage, but if this is not possible you’ll have a slightly bigger problem on your hands. Until one of our engineers can take a look for you, you can try using some leak-proof tape or epoxy putting as a temporary solution.
Leaky and blocked toilet
Another problem which is often overlooked is a leaking toilet, if you flush the toilet and can hear strange noises there is probably a leak somewhere in the pipework. In this case you will need to call out a professional as it can be hard to figure out where and how to fix it without the proper knowledge.
For a blocked toilet if you see the water level rising after a flush, or it is not flushing as it should then there is probable a blockage somewhere in the pipes. You can try moving whatever is blocking it by using a plunger, or if you know that a toiletry bottle or toy accidentally fell into the toilet you can try reaching into the toilet, whilst wearing gloves to pull it out. If this is not possible then call Metro Rod Aberdeen who can help fix the problem.
