MOST COMMON DRAINAGE PROBLEMS – METRO ROD EDINBURGH

There are a number of things that can go wrong within your drainage system, these are the most common problems you may experience and what can be done to fix them.

The problem with most drains and pipes is that they are located underground and behind walls which makes it harder to notice a problem and then reach. The first sign when something goes wrong is often the water won’t drain or you notice a strange bad odour, but this can lead you to question what is causing the problems. Metro Rod Edinburgh is hopefully going to answer this question for you by explaining what we find to be the most common drainage problems.

#1 Blockages

Probably the most common drainage problem you will experience is some kind of blockage. There are many things that can lead to a blockage, with about 75% of them being completely avoidable. The things we find that contribute most to a blocked drain is, grease, hair, bits of food and non-biodegradable materials like wet wipes and nappies.

There is a range of different methods you can try at home to get your drains flowing again which you can read about here. If none of these work then you don’t need to worry as Metro Rod Edinburgh are the experts you need to help unblock your drains. With a range of services we know we can effectively remove the entire blockage from your pipes to get things flowing again.

#2 Cracks and Fractures

Cracks and fractures can occur due to natural wear and tear that pipes undergo, they can often lead to leaks and in serious cases flooding which will pose a threat to your home. To catch these cracks and fractures before they get out of hand we recommend having regular drain maintenance so you can stay on top of the condition of your drains. Metro Rod can carry out this maintenance for you by conducting a CCTV Drain Survey which requires a small camera being inserted in your drains to capture what is going on in them - to read more about how you can benefit from a CCTV Drain Survey click here.

#3 Tree Roots

As tree roots grow down into the ground there is a chance they will reach your pipes and drains. They are then able to work their way into the smallest cracks and holes and continue to grow in your pipes. As they grow bigger they will eventually enlarge the crack they grew into fracturing the pipes more, as well as causing a blockage. If are regularly finding yourself with slow draining water and blocked pipes that won’t go away with our DIY methods then it is quite possible that you have something you can’t remove yourself blocking you drains. If this is the case then you should get in contact with Metro Rod Edinburgh who will be able to help you further.
