Drains are crucial to the running of all properties and with them not always in view its important to know the signs of when they are damaged.
Drainage systems are constantly in use putting them under daily stress which can result in normal wear and tear. These faults can eventually cause problems for you and your property. As much of the drainage system is hidden from sight it’s important you can recognise the signs that something is wrong as it isn’t always obvious.
If you are able to spot the signs that something is wrong it means you can have it looked at and fixed. The longer you wait to have these problems looked at the more chance there is that will get worse. Making it a harder repair and more costly than it originally may have been. That is why it is so important you know the signs of drain damage.
The 5 Common Sings of Drain Damage
#1 Damp and Mould
Damaged drains and pipes can result in leaks, if this happens to the pipes within the structure of your home or business you may start to notice damp and mould. The moisture can start seeping through the walls, floors and ceilings and become visible. Its a good idea to have this looked at as soon as possible so it doesn’t cause structural damage.
#2 Slow Draining Water
A slow draining toilet or sink could indicate there is damage in your drains. This could be a straightforward blockage caused by food, fat and debris from showers etc. but the blockage may also be caused by ingrowing tree roots. This will need to rectified by a professional like Metro Rod.
#3 Dark Patches in Grass
Random patches of luscious or dark patches of grass may indicate that a sewage pipe is broken. Sewage can act as a fertiliser making the grass grow more than in other areas.
#4 Water Pooling
Water pooling around the base of your toilet, sink or shower is a sign that a pipe is damaged. When you try and flush water down the drain, the water can start to come out through the cracks in the system which is when we see water pooling.
#5 Foundation Cracks
In cases where the damaged pipe lies beneath a building’s structural points, it is possible for cracks to appear in the building itself, for example across the floors or walls. While this is only likely if the problem has been left for a significant amount of time, it can seriously threaten the integrity of the building.
