You should always be on the lookout for signs that your drains are damaged as it could end up causing more trouble for your property.
Drains are in constant use around the home, meaning they are at risk of faults due to wear and tear. Metro Rod know it is important to be able to spot signs of damage so that the drains can be fixed. The longer you wait before fixing damaged drains the more likely it is that the problems can escalate, making the fix harder and potentially more expensive.
As most of a drainage system is hidden from sight it can make spotting damage tricky, as you can’t see the problems. These are some of the common signs you might be able to spot that would indicate you have a damaged drain.
#1 Slow Drainage
If you start to notice your drain performance decreasing it would indicate some sort of damage. It might mean a blockage which could be an easy fix, might might require more work if the blockage is caused by tree roots for example.
#2 Water Pooling
When water starts to leak and pool around your showers, toilets and sinks it will indicate a damaged drain or pipe. Cracks in the drainage system will become apparent when water is flushed through and can start pooling in your home.
#3 Dark Patches in Grass
Random patches of luscious or dark patches of grass may indicate that a sewage pipe is broken. Sewage can act as a fertiliser making the grass grow more than in other areas.
#4 Damp and Mould
Damaged drains and pipes can result in leaks, if this happens to the pipes within the structure of your home or business you may start to notice damp and mould. The moisture can start seeping through the walls, floors and ceilings and become visible. Its a good idea to have this looked at as soon as possible so it doesn’t cause structural damage.
