Uric Scale in Your Toilets | Metro Rod Deeside Chester

What is Uric Scale?

When calcium and protein deposits in urine come together, they react with each other to form a solid compound called Uric Scale. The urine flows out of the kidney then gets excreted, the chemical change to urine causes the scale to form on the surface of toilet bowls, urinals and also on internal waste pipes.

Uric scale becomes a breeding ground for bacteria, ultimately resulting in bad smells from urinals. If left unchecked it will be liable to blockages and likely expensive remedial work. Uric scale, in addition, becomes more noticeable in urinals as the water flow can be limited. It therefore does not break down and wash away scale deposits. Bacteria in addition can also form in porous floors, causing even more bad odours in the washroom.

Minerals in the water used to flush the urinal system can cause scale. Although, uric salt crystals from the urine are the most common cause. Salt crystals coat the inside of the pipes, creating uric scale, also restricting flow through the urinal waste pipes. Other factors contributing to the problem are debris and chewing gum being disposed of inside the urinal.

How to Prevent Uric Scale

Good, daily housekeeping can keep uric scale at bay. Having basic cleanliness routines like the following can help:

Toilets

  • Push the toilet brush into the bowl and pump up and down. This will clean the bowl of debris, and lower the water level to where minerals and uric scale are usually deposited.
  • Using the directional nozzle, squirt toilet cleaner under the rim all the way round and allow it to run down into the toilet bowl.
  • After a few minutes, brush the inside of the bowl paying attention to the underneath of the rim.
  • Flush, and if required squirt another small measure of toilet cleaner into the bowl.

Urinals

  • Flush the urinal to rinse down interior surfaces.
  • Remove any foreign objects from the urinal.
  • Use toilet cleaner and squirt a solid stream along the top of the inside flushing edge of the urinal. Allow the solution to run down the inside surface of the urinal as you also wipe down the exterior surfaces with a disinfecting cloth.
  • Wipe down pipes together with flushing handle.
  • Scrub the interior surface of the urinal with a toilet brush, likewise taking care to thoroughly scrub all surfaces.
  • Flush urinal.

Old Uric Scale

If you have a problem with uric scale that has already built up, then we would recommend a full clean and a regular pre-planned maintenance plan .
