Another successful beach clean
On July 31st, we hosted a regional beach clean in Cromer with the help of our partners Anglian Water. Apart from a brief shower late in the morning, the sun shone brightly, and our dedicated team hosted a fantastic clean up operation, with holidaymakers and locals alike working together to clean Cromer's beaches.
North Norfolk District Council generously donated the use of litter pickers, hoops, and recycled bags for rubbish collection, as well as arranging for all litter collected to be removed and recycled wherever possible. The turnout was incredible, with over 100 people, dogs, and even a friendly seagul.
Jean O'Brien, Metro Rod Norwich's owner said:
In order to prevent seals and seabirds from becoming entangled, fish and other marine animals from ingesting plastic fragments, and to maintain beautiful, clean beaches for us all, it is important to remove harmful plastics, fragments of lost fishing gear, and polluting domestic waste from our beaches.
Fun in the sun...
We worked with our partners at Anglian Water to ensure that everyone in the family had a good time. From our now-famous games of toilet golf and beat the tanker to the useful gunk pots, scrapers, and strainers, we had it all. Our volunteer team made certain that when people were not litter picking, they could be educated in our Keep It Clear programme, which allows communities to engage with the issue of blocked pipes and make a real difference.
Hidden stones
We hid a collection of stones bearing our logo on the beach and offered a reward to anyone who returned the stone to us. Edison and Emmeline were the lucky winners, and they are looking forward to using their book voucher in Norwich.
So what's next?
Our goal is to host a beach clean-up at least every quarter, and we've already received numerous requests to join us on the next one. Follow us on social media HERE for details on the next beach clean and help us keep Norfolk's beaches clean one beach at a time.
