Asset mapping is a new service offered by Metro Rod Manchester and Macclesfield, using GPS technology to accurately plot the location of manholes, gullies, drainage channels etc. for industrial sites.
Many businesses may require an asset mapping service, however it would typically be organisations such as environmental agencies, councils, highways authorities, and construction companies that are undertaking development of land, but anybody else that may need an accurate site map will benefit from Metro Rod Manchester and Macclesfield’s asset mapping service.
Metro Rod’s Technical Support Manager, Matt Mulheran, has described the asset mapping process in more detail:
“On arrival on site, we would go and see the relevant site manager, get the asset mapping equipment, set it up; putting the antenna on the pole and connecting the remote device.
Once all the locations have been accurately plotted, we then need to look at the pipes, and where they come from and where they go to. To do that, we can use a CCTV drain camera, or dye testing methods. From that, we can accurately plot the lines of every single drainage pipe on the site.
The asset mapping report is generated by a portal in PDF format, an excel spreadsheet, manhole record cards, and a .KML file which is a Google Earth overlay. This allows the client to go onto Google Earth and actually zoom straight onto the site and click on any part of the map that shows the details for that particular asset.”
Asset mapping is ideal for those involved in either large-scale land purchases for commercial and residential property development. With that being said, our asset mapping service is also available on a large or small scale across Manchester, Stockport, Macclesfield and surrounding areas of Cheshire.
