About Us

Metro Rod Gloucester’s business journey started in 2006 from a garage by founders Colin Witcomb and Gary Cleeves. With only two engineers and using purely word of mouth to start their business, Colin and Gary worked 24 hours a day 365 day a year to make sure all customers had a great experience. Colin and Gary employed their first engineer in the first few months of starting the business who still works for Metro Rod today.

After 2 years Colin and Gary had employed 3 engineers before renting out a council building to store their work van.

Our current managing director and Colin’s son, Ben, joined the team in 2007 part-time. After 2 years Ben became a full-time member of the team and a fully qualified drainage engineer.

In 2011, Gary left the business to open our sister franchise, Metro Rod Swansea. Colin continued to grow Metro Rod Newport & Hereford and Ben soon joined as a Director.

On the 10th anniversary of being in business, Metro Rod Newport and Hereford were awarded Franchise Winners of the Year. Since then, both our staff and fleet numbers have grown due to increased demand from customers. We now have 5 tankers, 21 engineers, and 14 vans on the road which means we are able to cover a wider area including Gloucester and Cardiff.

We are currently based in the Crown Business Park, Tredegar, where there is easy access to roads towards Merthyr Tydfil, Ystrad Mynach, and Treherbert. We like to get involved as much as possible in charity work, but until recently have worked with charities in the Newport area. However, as we grow we would like our reach for volunteer work. Therefore, if you know a charity project that we could get involved in in your area contact us.
